Product Description: This is a strand of Etched Carnelian Beads.
Special Notes: As this is an antique item, it may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
These beads are from the Indus Valley Civilization, where patterns were drawn on carnelian using a natron solution derived from plants and then baked at low temperatures around 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they are also found in archaeological sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that those made in the Indus River region were transported via land and sea routes.
