Entirely made from Sansho wood (Japanese green pepper tree) from the Aritagawa region of Wakayama Prefecture in Japan, this is a unique pestle created as the perfect companion tool to the Iga Suribachi Mortar (available separately).
Beautifully finished to showcase the natural elements of the original character of Sansho trees, the hard wood is resistant to wear and is designed to fit comfortably in your hand. Together with the ceramic mortar, use it to grind many types of seeds, sesame, beans, miso, tofu and many other herbs and spices. Enjoy the rich and satisfying flavours that will result from your home cooking.
Due to the natural material and handcrafted quality of these products, individual differences in shape & size are to be expected. Occasionally cracks may be seen during the manufacturing process, and that is not a defect. It’s part of natural beauty of the sansho pepper wood and it is safe to use it.
