Glass made during the ancient Roman era, as well as the Sassanian Empire, is referred to as "Roman Glass." Ancient Roman merchants, who were active in glass trade, sold beads with various designs tailored to their buyers' preferences.
Among Roman glass, beads with eye-like patterns are called Eye Beads. These beads were believed to have protective powers against evil and were a reproduction of ancient Phoenician beads made in the Roman era. The original Phoenician beads date back several hundred years before ancient Rome.
The fact that ancient Romans admired even older beads shows that the history of beads is indeed intertwined with human history.
