When Matsuda-san took us to see Kobayashi-san, the potter who makes these delightful pieces fully by hand, we witnessed her doing one of the things she does best: constantly improving the design of cookware. On this day she worked with Kobayashi-san to slightly change the dimensions of the lid so that it would store better and not break as easily. It is this attention to detail and relentless devotion to improvement that makes Matsuda-san's products so unique.
This three-piece set consists of a pan with handle, a pot, and a lid. It is perfect for little side dishes or for a personal meal. The lid fits on both the pan and the pot, and the pot can even be used as a bowl. The form and function in this set in wonderful.
Can be used on gas burners, in ovens and in the microwave.
One of go-to dishes Greg makes with this set is Okayu (Japanese rice porridge). He'll make the porridge in the pot and while that is cooking, he'll sauté mushrooms in sesame oil in the pan. To finish he folds the sautéd mushrooms into the porridge. That's comfort in a bowl.
