Aerial photography invites a new way of seeing — where rivers become ribbons and landscapes unfold like paintings. When I captured Blue Drift, I was mesmerized by how this close-up section of a glacial river revealed something almost otherworldly. There were no dramatic skies or mountains — just movement, texture, and tone. In soft blues and dark silts, the river danced quietly across the frame. This is one of those rare moments where the Earth becomes abstract, and nature composes its own work of art.

About Iceland’s Glacial Rivers

Iceland’s glacial rivers are shaped by centuries of volcanic activity and melting ice. As the glaciers retreat, they release mineral-rich waters that carve through dark volcanic sands, creating ever-changing channels and surreal patterns. These braided rivers are best viewed from above, where their full scale and complexity are revealed. The deep blues in this image come from fine glacial sediments, while the darker shadows are silt-laden flows — always in motion, always evolving.
