J. I. Packer said the present work on the Person and Work of the Spirit, including the miraculous gifts [charismata] was the most substantial Puritan contribution to the theology of the Spirit of the puritan era. And, he goes on, if we are to look for guidance from the Puritans as to what they would have thought of Pentecostal Christianity and how it would have been assessed, the present is the only resource of any significance. 

A very interesting treatment of the charismata, to which Owen leaves the door open in terms of their continuation or resurgence. 

Most later editions, including the Nichols series and all modern iterations, remove the majority of this content. 

Also includes a very good life of John Owen at the beginning of the work.
