A handsome antique French bleached monastery trestle dining table, circa 1900, handcrafted of solid oak by artisans in Bayeux, the first town to be liberated in Normandy after D-Day in June 1944. Having a rectangular plank top with breadboard ends this bleached monastery table is supported on two hand carved baluster legs resting on carved plinth bases with a center baluster for stability, all joined by a thick carved stretcher. Thick and sturdy timbers able to withstand daily use for another century.
