Lauded fashion designer and master tailor, Yohji Yamamoto is known for his avant-garde designs rooted in Japanese aesthetics. Made in Japan, this jacket was modelled by Erin O'Connor for the designer’s Spring 2001 collection as look 33/35. The Vogue review described how in this collection Yamamoto was “swathing and wrapping the body in his unique, highly evolved manner.” This jacket embodies his passion for experimentation and pushing the boundaries of what we consider tailoring. Cut to a cocooning fit from black wool, it is trimmed and lined with a crisp black taffeta. There is a soft collar that reveals the lining and gives way to a twisting hemline of the same fabric that continues all the way down the lapels and round the back of the jacket. The sleeves offer a relaxed fit and are cropped to a three-quarter length. The jacket fastens at the front with a single square of tonal Velcro - not visible when the jacket is closed.

It is in wonderful vintage condition, with no flaws or marks and looks barely worn. Labelled a Japanese size 2, this roughly corresponds to a Women's Medium; there is no stretch to the fabric.
