An exceptionally elegant Victorian evening fan (ca. 1880–1890) featuring finely carved bone sticks and guards, delicately pierced and painted in a soft gold tone. The leaf is made of thin net lace, beautifully embroidered with gold‑coloured sequins, creating a shimmering surface that catches the light with every movement. At the centre of the design is a graceful bow motif, a popular decorative element in late 19th‑century Victorian fashion. The fan is in very good condition overall; one stick is broken at the very tip - only there - without affecting stability or display.
This exquisite antique evening fan remained for many years in our private collection and was frequently used for decorative purposes. It was also featured in styling and photography, including with this gown from our archive: 1898 LaRue Ball Gown, Biarritz (see link above). Its refined materials, craftsmanship, and shimmering gold accents make it a perfect accessory for collectors of Victorian fans, historical fashion enthusiasts, or anyone seeking an authentic decorative piece from the late 19th century.
Length of guards: approx. 24 cm
Diameter when fully opened: approx. 40 cm
