I only recently learned of the work of Hans Teppich, a German artist and sculptor best known for his exquisitely crafted--and highly collectible--series of 24 small brass figurines representing Judaic characters. These four, c. 1960s and labeled on the bottoms, represent Chassid, Rachel, Sarah and Tamar. Attached to each is a round metal stamp to which a paper label reading "Original Teppich" is attached.
Teppich was born in Germany in 1904, studied a wide range of artistic disciplines while working as a furniture maker, and went on to set up a workshop in Jerusalem, where he created a range of Judaic objects including Hanukkah lamps and candlesticks as well as jewellery and figurines such as these. Teppich produced a series of 24 figurines in total.
The figurines measure from 2" to 2 1/4" tall, approx. 5/8" wide and deep, and are in very good vintage condition, with just bit of wear visible in detailed views (see photos.)
