This old bit probably dates from the 19th century, it has a dark aged patina with a little surface oxidation.
The jointed mouthpiece is twisted curved. The central joint is worn from use.
On one side the bit ring is connected to a ring, this would have attached to a cheekpiece on the headstall..
The other side of the bit forms a hook which could be detached from the bridle, making this a watering bit.
It was probably used on a working dray or farm horse.
There are no identifying marks.
