This is a classic Great Britain 1d Red, featuring the left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, engraved by Charles Heath and based on the famous design by William Wyon. Issued between 1858 and 1879, these perforated penny reds replaced the imperforate versions first introduced in 1841. The stamp bears corner letters L–E, identifying its plate position. The heavy barred oval cancellation, common in this period, is clearly visible across the design. Widely collected, the penny red remains a cornerstone of Victorian philately, prized for its plating varieties and historic postal use.
