The Blackmagic Design SDI Expander 8x12G is a bidirectional SMPTE ST 2110 IP converter that bridges traditional 12G-SDI infrastructure and modern 100G Ethernet IP broadcast networks in a single rack unit. It converts eight independent channels of 12G-SDI to SMPTE-2110 while simultaneously converting a separate set of eight SMPTE-2110 streams back to 12G-SDI, delivering 16 channels of conversion at once. That makes it an ideal gateway for facilities migrating live production, broadcast, and post workflows from baseband SDI routing to uncompressed IP video.

Built for mission-critical operation, the SDI Expander 8x12G uses two 100G QSFP28 connections that support SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundant delivery of IP streams across two separate 2110 networks, so a single network fault never interrupts the signal. A dedicated 1G RJ45 control network handles NMOS discovery, configuration, and firmware updates, while dual redundant internal AC power supplies keep the unit running for 24/7 broadcast environments. It supports all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 with 10-bit 4:2:2 YUV color precision and 16 channels of embedded audio per video stream.

A front panel 2.2-inch color LCD with a three-button control panel and spin knob lets operators scrub between every available input and monitor video, audio levels, video standard, timecode, and menu settings directly on the unit. A built-in monitor speaker and 6.35mm headphone jack provide instant audio confidence checks. With full NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 support, PTP/ST 2059 timing, and the optional Blackmagic IP10 codec for 2160p60, the SDI Expander 8x12G is a professional, standards-compliant tool for high-density SDI-to-IP integration.
