Welcome to Lulu Boop Vintage — where carefully sourced vintage and antique garments are preserved, reimagined, and offered a second life. Each piece is unique, carrying the quiet beauty of its past and waiting to be worn again with intention.

A refined antique Edwardian detachable lace collar dating to approximately 1905–1912, beautifully crafted from fine cotton net and intricate floral embroidery. This elegant collar features dramatic front and back bib panels, a construction typical of high-quality Edwardian lingerie accessories designed to transform the neckline of dresses and blouses.

The lace is formed on a delicate hexagonal cotton net ground, richly decorated with tambour-style machine embroidery creating flowing vines, stylized leaves, and small blossoms. Many of the flowers are  raised, giving the piece subtle dimension and texture. The edges are finished with scalloped embroidered picots, a detail often found in luxury lingerie lace of the period.

The collar band is constructed with fine pin-tucked net, a technique used in Edwardian collars to provide gentle structure so the collar would sit upright around the neck. At the back remain original metal hooks, which would have attached to tiny thread loops on a blouse or dress. This confirms the piece was made as a detachable accessory, allowing women to easily change the look of a garment.

This style of collar was commonly produced in France, Belgium, or Switzerland, where some of the finest embroidered net lace for the international fashion market was manufactured during the early twentieth century.

How It Was Worn in the Edwardian Era

During the Edwardian period, women often owned multiple detachable collars like this one. They were worn over:

  • Lingerie dresses
  • Silk or cotton blouses
  • Edwardian shirtwaists
  • Tea gowns
  • Delicate lawn dresses

By changing the collar, a single dress could take on an entirely new look. These removable pieces were also practical: collars could be washed more frequently than the dress itself, preserving the garment.

The dramatic bib panels in both the front and back would have cascaded over the bodice, creating an elegant lace frame around the neckline and shoulders.

How to Style It Today

Antique collars like this are highly sought after by collectors and designers and can be styled beautifully with modern clothing. They can be worn:

  • layered over a silk slip dress
  • over a simple black dress for striking contrast
  • with a camisole and jeans for a romantic vintage touch
  • pinned over a modern blouse or knit top
  • displayed as part of a textile or antique lace collection

Its delicate transparency and floral embroidery make it an especially striking piece when worn over darker fabrics.

Condition

Antique condition consistent with age. Some light discoloration and small areas of wear typical of delicate net lace more than a century old. The lace panels and embroidery remain largely intact and display beautifully.

A lovely surviving example of Edwardian lace craftsmanship, reflecting the elegance and refinement of early twentieth-century fashion accessories.

Fit & Sizing Notes

Vintage and antique garments do not follow modern sizing standards. Many were handmade or custom-tailored for one individual. Size tags, when present, are for reference only — measurements are essential. I’m always happy to assist with fit questions.

Condition & Care

All pieces are vintage or antique and may show gentle signs of age

Pre-1930s fabrics (silk, muslin, lace) are delicate and should be worn with care

Garments are best worn with ease, not tension

Edwardian & Victorian considerations:

Corset-era pieces often have very small waists with broader shoulders or hips

Sleeves are frequently designed as ¾ length

Buttons may vary due to age and period repairs
